Poodle Grooming Class

Monday, October 26th, 2009

Last Saturday Wow Take A Bow Boarding & Grooming hosted the first Poodle Grooming Class as an APAW fundraiser, and it was a success!

Local Poodle owners came with their pre-bathed and fluffed Poodles and whatever grooming supplies they had accumulated. After watching a demo of each portion of the grooming process (demonstrated on APAW Pixie),  the budding groomers worked on their own pups with handling assistance, reminders, and suggestions for their specific situations.

Poodles and parents left looking neat and proud :)

Wow Take A Bow will be hosting another class shortly before Christmas (contact for details) – class space is limited so sign-up early. We plan to offer the class every 2-3 months, and APAW Poodles will be available for new groomers who wish to learn on a well-trained canine.

Tricks for Treats with PCM

Sunday, October 25th, 2009

Today was a fun one for lucky Poodles owned by members of the Poodle Club of Massachusetts. APAW Demo-Dog Charlie – accompanied by Program Director Jillian Gartner – taught a trick class for the happy pooches.

Dogs learned and practiced spinning in circles, weaving through human legs and taking a bow – and some came up with other tricks to work on, like crossing paws, playing dead, and hind-end awareness via pivoting around a target.

If you are looking for a neat interactive workshop for a group of savvy dog owners in the area (MA, parts of CT/NH/RI etc), consider having Charlie come by… as seen on Animal Planet’s Dogs 101 show!

Schedule – Memorial Day 2009

Thursday, May 14th, 2009

Come join us on Memorial Day,

Monday May 25th,

for a day of Canine Fun!

You may have seen them on Animal Planet’s Dogs 101, in the newspaper, or anywhere around town – now is your chance to meet them in person… Jillian Gartner, and her amazing Poodle Charlie. Not only will you get to ask Jillian anything you’ve wondered about, but you can watch Charlie perform his tasks right in front of you. The Dynamic Duo will even accommodate your requests!

Proceeds benefit American Poodles At Work, a local small program that trains and places Poodles with people who have disabilities. This is the organization mentioned on TV that Jillian founded, and that Charlie provides demonstrations for. These special dogs pick-up dropped items, open doors, turn on lights (and so much more!) for people who have mobility impairment. Each dog learns over 90 commands before they are matched with a partner.

Your friendly dogs are welcome, so bring a short leash (no retractables/Flexis please).

This is a cute little Easter story featuring our very own Charlie!

We hope you enjoy it :)

Can You Design Us A Logo?

Saturday, March 28th, 2009

APAW is in need of a logo for our program and we’d love to see your ideas!

Are you creative?

Do you like to sketch?

Skillful with digital art?

You could be just who we are looking for!

General theme we are hoping to achieve:

  • Strength/meaning of the human-canine bond
  • Suggestive of Poodle breed
  • Not specific to assistance of a person w/disability - indicative of any working role
  • Relatively simple (can be put on apparel etc.)

We are accepting all submissions currently and once we have a nice selection the top designs will be placed up for the public to vote on.

Email your submission/s to info@americanpoodlesatwork.org

Thank you!
